Captain Chuck Scates is one of the first to pioneer fly fishing on the Texas coast.  He is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced guides in Texas.  For over 27 years Chuck has been guiding and promoting fly and light tackle fishing on the Texas flats.  He holds the IGFA World Record for Spotted Sea trout on 2 lb. tippet.  He has created numerous fly patterns for catching Redfish, Speckled trout, and Black Drum.  Chuck has been the topic of articles in most of the fly fishing magazines published in the U.S. and many of the TV shows.  Chuck and Phil Shook are the authors of Fly Fishing the Texas Coast, Back Country Flats to Blue Water.


Chuck is a full time guide on the middle and lower Texas Coast, specializing in fly fishing shallow water for Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Black Drum or (Texas Permit).  He is a field tester for G. Loomis Rod Company, and is sponsored by Maverick Boats and Yamaha Outboards.  Chuck is also a member and contributor to the Coastal Conservation Association, and is in the Federation of Fly Fishers Guide Association.  He also gives slide shows all across the United States on fly fishing the Texas coast.
